Located in the southwest corner of Sta. Rita Hills, La Encantada is a certified organic site planted in 2001 by Richard Sanford - the "godfather" of Santa Ynez pinot. This north-facing vineyard enjoys a very cool climate as a result of its westerly location and proximity to the ocean. Its high elevation (the vineyard sits on a ridge at the foot of the Santa Rosa Hills) also exposes it to the marine winds which sweep in over the valley in the afternoon. La Encantada is planted to 96 acres of Pinot Noir (clones 4, 5, 114, 115, 667, 777 and SWAN) on combination soils consisting of clay, loam, shale and sand. The result is dark cherry, earth and spice - everything you'd want out of Sta. Rita Hills pinot. This vineyard typifies why there is so much buzz about Pinot Noir from Sta Rita Hills.
